Remote Civil Engineer - Flood Risk

About the Role

Our client is seeking a specialized Remote Civil Engineer with expertise in Flood Risk and Drainage to join their distributed team. This position focuses on developing innovative solutions for flood mitigation and sustainable drainage systems across a range of projects. You will work independently, leveraging your technical knowledge to conduct assessments, design strategies, and produce detailed reports. This role is ideal for a self-motivated engineer who thrives in a remote work setting and is passionate about environmental resilience and sustainable water management, contributing to projects from anywhere within the UK.

Key Responsibilities

• Undertake flood risk assessments (FRA) and develop mitigation strategies for development sites.
• Design sustainable drainage systems (SuDS), including ponds, swales, and permeable paving.
• Prepare detailed hydraulic models and drainage designs using industry-standard software.
• Produce technical reports, drawings, and specifications for flood defense and drainage schemes.
• Liaise with clients, regulators, and statutory consultees remotely to achieve project approvals.
• Stay abreast of current legislation, guidance (e.g., The SuDS Manual), and best practices in flood risk management.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering , Environmental Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Demonstrable experience in flood risk assessment and drainage design.
• Proficiency with hydraulic modelling software (e.g., Flood Modeller, InfoWorks ICM) and AutoCAD.
• Strong understanding of UK flood risk and drainage policy, including the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF).
• Excellent report writing and communication skills, adapted for remote collaboration.
• Ability to manage own workload, meet deadlines, and work autonomously.
