Remote Legal Counsel - Data Privacy

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated and expert Remote Legal Counsel with a specialization in Data Privacy to join their forward-thinking legal team. This role is fully remote, offering flexibility and the opportunity to work from anywhere within the UK. You will be instrumental in shaping and implementing the company's data protection strategy, ensuring compliance with GDPR and other global privacy regulations, and advising on all aspects of data handling and processing. This position demands a proactive approach to privacy law and a commitment to embedding privacy-by-design principles across all business operations, working collaboratively with IT, marketing, and product development teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive data privacy policies and procedures across the organization.
• Advise on data protection impact assessments (DPIAs) and ensure compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant privacy laws.
• Handle data subject access requests (DSARs) and manage any data breach incidents effectively and efficiently.
• Provide training and guidance to employees on data privacy best practices and regulatory requirements.
• Review and advise on data processing agreements and third-party vendor contracts related to personal data.
• Stay current with evolving privacy legislation and interpret its impact on the business strategy.

Requirements

• Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with a strong focus on data protection and privacy law.
• Minimum of 5 years' experience in privacy law, preferably with significant in-house exposure.
• In-depth knowledge of GDPR , PECR, and other international data privacy frameworks.
• Experience in conducting privacy audits and advising on privacy-by-design.
• Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex legal concepts to non-legal audiences.
• Proven ability to work independently and manage a remote workload effectively.
