About the Role
Our client is actively seeking a diligent and experienced Remote Mortgage Underwriter to join their expanding lending operations. This position is based entirely remotely, allowing you to work from anywhere within the UK. You will be responsible for evaluating loan applications, assessing risk, and making informed decisions on mortgage approvals in compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. The role demands a sharp eye for detail, a strong understanding of credit risk, and the ability to manage a pipeline of applications efficiently, all while maintaining excellent communication with brokers and internal teams in a virtual setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze and evaluate mortgage loan applications, including credit reports, income verification, and asset documentation.
- Assess borrower risk and determine loan eligibility based on established underwriting guidelines and lender policies.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant federal and state lending regulations, including TRID and HMDA.
- Communicate effectively with loan officers, brokers, and third-party vendors to gather necessary information and clarify application details.
- Review appraisal reports and title documentation to identify any potential issues or risks.
- Make sound decisions on loan approval, denial, or conditions, providing clear and concise justification for each outcome.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Mortgage Underwriter, with a solid understanding of underwriting principles.
- Knowledge of various loan programs (e.g., conventional, FHA, VA) and their specific guidelines.
- Familiarity with mortgage lending software and automated underwriting systems (AUS).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, adapted for remote interaction and collaboration.
