About the Role
Our client, a leading mortgage lender, is seeking an experienced and meticulous Mortgage Underwriter to join their team, operating with a fully remote setup. This critical role involves evaluating loan applications to assess risk and ensure compliance with company policies and regulatory requirements. You will analyze borrowers' financial information, property valuations, and credit histories to make informed decisions on loan approvals, rejections, or modifications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of mortgage lending principles, excellent analytical skills, and a commitment to providing fair and efficient service to applicants, ensuring the integrity and soundness of the loan portfolio. Key Responsibilities
- Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, including financial statements, credit reports, and property appraisals.
- Assess applicant creditworthiness and the risk associated with each loan to ensure adherence to lending guidelines.
- Make sound decisions on loan approval, denial, or modification based on established underwriting criteria.
- Ensure all loans meet regulatory compliance standards, including those related to fair lending and consumer protection.
- Communicate effectively with loan officers, brokers, and applicants to gather necessary documentation and clarify information.
- Maintain accurate and thorough records of underwriting decisions and supporting documentation in the loan origination system.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in mortgage underwriting, loan processing, or a related financial services role.
- In-depth knowledge of mortgage lending regulations, underwriting guidelines, and best practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a keen attention to detail.
- Proficiency in loan origination software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills, adapted for a remote environment.
