Renewable Energy Consultant

Fichtner Consulting Engineers Ltd is a leading technical consultancy with a reputation built on over 35 years of successful projects in the UK and Ireland. Our purpose is to facilitate the investment and delivery of energy infrastructure projects that positively influence the energy transition. Our success comes from the unique combination of skills and experience that continuously evolves. Our Engineers and Consultants support some of the most innovative energy projects across the UK and Ireland; providing design, intellectual, and engineering services to developers, investors, and owner-operators.

We have over 180 employees that we are proud to have represent us, operating from our offices in Manchester, Belfast, Dublin, and Glasgow. As the business grows from strength to strength, we are now looking to further extend our renewables team by recruiting a consulting engineer with utility scale solar PV project management experience to be based out of our Glasgow office with UK, Ireland and some EU travel.

Fichtner is supporting a growing portfolio of solar projects, including large and technically complex projects delivered through multi-contract and co-located solar and storage arrangements. We are therefore looking to expand our specialist renewables team.

The role will involve working with developers, investors, lenders and asset owners across the project lifecycle, from early-stage development and technical due diligence through procurement, construction, commissioning and testing. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to take increasing responsibility for managing technical workstreams and, depending on experience, project managing the construction and delivery of large and complex solar farm projects.

Ideally the successful candidate will have ground mount solar experience, but candidates with wider transferable renewable power experience and a desire to work on BESS projects will also be well considered.

We are looking for:

• a good electrical, mechanical or renewables-based postgraduate degree.

• technical consultancy/project management experience gained during the development, construction or operational phases of large scale/complex solar farm projects.

• Production of feasibility studies and design reviews in a previous role.

• experience in the financing of renewable energy projects, ideally including technical due diligence exposure.

• good understanding of the key technical risks with solar and battery projects, including the ability to identify potential technical design or installation risks.

• knowledge of standard forms of contract and their applicability to the construction and renewable energy project sector.

• the ability to correctly interpret electrical drawings, models, specifications and functional descriptions.

• prior experience with the preparation of high-quality technical reports and models for clients.

• able and willing to travel in the UK and EU for client meetings, site visits, factory tests, etc.

• able to work in the UK without any visa restrictions.

What you can expect from us:

• A competitive salary with leading bonus scheme of up to 20% of salary

• Further vocational qualification support

• Electric vehicle leasing scheme

• Private medical & life assurance

• Cycle to work scheme

• Share purchase option

• Team and company social events

• Milestone scheme celebrating years spent as part of the Fichtner team
