Research Scientist - Drug Discovery

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Research Scientist with a focus on Drug Discovery to join their dynamic team in Reading . This role is integral to identifying and developing novel therapeutic candidates for unmet medical needs. You will be involved in assay development, screening campaigns, and lead optimization, working closely with medicinal chemists and biologists. The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in molecular pharmacology or a related discipline, coupled with hands-on experience in assay development and execution. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and validate biochemical and cell-based assays for high-throughput screening (HTS) and lead characterization.
• Execute screening campaigns to identify novel hit compounds and characterize their mechanism of action.
• Collaborate with medicinal chemists to design and synthesize analogues for structure-activity relationship (SAR) studies.
• Contribute to the planning and execution of in vitro ADME/Tox studies.
• Analyze and interpret experimental data, presenting findings clearly to project teams and management.
• Maintain detailed laboratory records and contribute to the preparation of reports and scientific publications.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Molecular Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related life science field.
• Minimum of 3 years of relevant postdoctoral or industry experience in drug discovery.
• Proven experience in assay development, optimization, and execution (e.g., enzyme assays, cell-based assays, reporter assays).
• Hands-on experience with HTS and secondary assay formats.
• Strong understanding of drug discovery principles and pathways relevant to therapeutic areas.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team-based environment in Reading .
