About the Role
Our client is actively seeking an experienced Research Scientist to join their innovative drug discovery division in Leeds . This role is central to identifying and validating novel therapeutic targets and advancing small molecule drug candidates through the early stages of development. You will work within a state-of-the-art laboratory environment, employing a range of cutting-edge techniques to drive forward promising research programs. This position requires a deep understanding of disease biology and a passion for translating scientific insights into potential new medicines. The successful candidate will be a key contributor to the company's mission to improve patient health.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute biochemical and cellular assays to identify and characterize novel drug targets.
- Conduct hit-to-lead optimization studies, evaluating compound potency, selectivity, and preliminary pharmacokinetics.
- Utilize various drug discovery techniques, including high-throughput screening (HTS) and structure-activity relationship (SAR) analysis.
- Collaborate closely with medicinal chemists, biologists, and pharmacologists to advance discovery projects.
- Interpret experimental data, troubleshoot assays, and present findings to project teams and leadership.
- Contribute to the strategic planning of research programs and maintain awareness of the competitive landscape.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or a related discipline.
- Minimum of 4 years of industry experience in drug discovery , with a focus on small molecule therapeutics.
- Hands-on experience with assay development, HTS, and data analysis relevant to drug screening.
- Proficiency in cell-based assays, biochemical assays, and target validation methodologies.
- Strong understanding of oncology, immunology, or neuroscience disease areas is a plus.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills, essential for working in a multidisciplinary environment in Leeds .
