Research Scientist - Structural Biology

About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled Research Scientist specializing in Structural Biology to join their vibrant R&D team in Nottingham . This role is focused on elucidating the three-dimensional structures of biological macromolecules, providing critical insights into their function and interactions, which is fundamental for drug discovery efforts. You will utilize a range of biophysical and biochemical techniques, working collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to tackle challenging biological questions. Key Responsibilities

• Express, purify, and characterize target proteins and protein complexes suitable for structural studies.
• Employ techniques such as X-ray crystallography, cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), or NMR spectroscopy to determine molecular structures.
• Analyze structural data and integrate it with functional and biochemical data to understand biological mechanisms.
• Collaborate with computational chemists and biologists to interpret structural findings in the context of drug design.
• Troubleshoot and optimize experimental protocols for protein production and structure determination.
• Maintain detailed experimental records and contribute to the preparation of scientific reports and publications.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated experience in protein expression, purification, and structural characterization.
• Hands-on experience with at least one major structural biology technique (e.g., X-ray crystallography, cryo-EM).
• Proficiency in data processing and analysis software relevant to structural biology.
• Strong understanding of molecular biology, protein chemistry, and biological pathways.
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented research setting.
