About the Role
Our client is looking for a skilled Research Scientist specializing in Structural Biology to join their R&D team in Sheffield . This role will focus on elucidating the three-dimensional structures of key biological targets and protein complexes, providing critical insights for drug discovery efforts. You will utilize state-of-the-art techniques, including X-ray crystallography and cryo-electron microscopy (cryo-EM), to solve challenging structural problems. This is an excellent opportunity for a scientist with expertise in macromolecular structure determination to contribute to the design of novel therapeutics in a collaborative and scientifically stimulating environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Express, purify, and characterize target proteins and complexes for structural studies.
- Determine protein structures using advanced techniques such as X-ray crystallography and cryo-EM .
- Analyze and interpret structural data, correlating it with functional and biological information.
- Collaborate with computational chemists and medicinal chemists to guide structure-based drug design.
- Contribute to experimental design, troubleshooting, and data interpretation for structural biology projects.
- Maintain detailed records and present findings to internal research teams and at scientific conferences.
Requirements
- PhD in Structural Biology, Biochemistry, Biophysics, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of postdoctoral or industry experience in structural biology .
- Proven experience with protein expression, purification, and characterization.
- Hands-on experience with X-ray crystallography or cryo-EM structure determination is essential.
- Proficiency in analyzing and visualizing macromolecular structures.
