Research Scientist - Synthetic Biology

About the Role

This role focuses on designing, building, and testing novel biological systems and engineered pathways for a variety of applications. Key Responsibilities

• Design and construct DNA constructs and genetic circuits for synthetic biology applications.
• Perform molecular cloning, strain engineering, and fermentation experiments.
• Characterize engineered biological systems using a range of analytical techniques, including spectroscopy and chromatography.
• Analyze experimental data, interpret results, and contribute to the optimization of biological designs.
• Collaborate with team members on project planning, execution, and troubleshooting.
• Maintain detailed laboratory records and contribute to scientific reports and presentations.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master's degree in Synthetic Biology, Molecular Biology, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
• Hands-on experience in molecular biology techniques, genetic engineering, and microbial cultivation.
• Familiarity with design-build-test-learn cycles in biological engineering.
• Experience with data analysis software and basic statistical methods.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a meticulous approach to experimental work.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to work effectively in a lab-based environment in Stoke-on-Trent .
