About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Research Scientist to lead innovative projects in Synthetic Organic Chemistry at their facility in Stoke-on-Trent . This role demands a deep understanding of complex organic synthesis, reaction mechanisms, and purification techniques. You will be responsible for designing and executing multi-step synthetic routes to novel compounds, troubleshooting synthetic challenges, and contributing to the discovery and development of new chemical entities. The successful candidate will work collaboratively within a team of chemists and researchers, driving scientific advancement and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and execute complex multi-step synthesis of target organic molecules, including route scouting and optimization.
- Investigate and troubleshoot synthetic challenges, developing innovative solutions to overcome obstacles.
- Characterize synthesized compounds using advanced spectroscopic techniques (NMR, MS, IR) and chromatographic methods (HPLC, GC).
- Contribute to the development of new synthetic methodologies and reaction conditions.
- Maintain accurate and detailed laboratory notebooks and prepare technical reports on research progress.
- Collaborate effectively with other scientists to achieve project goals and advance research objectives.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or a closely related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of post-doctoral or industrial experience in synthetic organic chemistry.
- Proven expertise in modern synthetic organic chemistry techniques, including asymmetric synthesis and catalysis.
- Strong proficiency in spectroscopic data interpretation (NMR, MS) and chromatographic purification.
- Experience with literature searching and familiarity with chemical databases.
- Excellent problem-solving skills, strong work ethic, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
