Secondary Cover Supervisor (Sports, Drama & University Grads)

Job Title: Secondary School Cover Supervisor / Graduate Classroom Lead

Location: Blackpool & The Fylde Coast, Lancashire (FY postcodes)

Contract Type: Flexible Daily Supply, Long-Term & Temp-to-Permanent options available

Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM - 3:15 PM (Term-time only | Immediate starts)

Step Straight Into the Classroom Without the Marking or Lesson Planning

Are you a recent university graduate, drama/performing arts practitioner, or sports coach looking for paid, hands-on secondary classroom experience before completing a PGCE or direct teacher training?

Or perhaps you want the buzz of working with secondary students (ages 11-16) on a flexible, term-time schedule that finishes at 3:15 PM every day?

Secondary schools across Blackpool and the Fylde Coast have high daily demand for confident, energetic Cover Supervisors. In this role, lessons and learning resources are already planned and set by the subject teacher-your mission is to step into the room, command attention, facilitate the work, and keep learners engaged and on-task.

Why Sports, Drama & Academic Graduates Excel Here

Natural Presence & Projection: If you have directed a play, performed on stage, or coached a squad on a pitch, commanding the attention of 25-30 teenagers comes naturally.

Zero Planning, Zero Marking: Arrive at 8:30 AM, lead the pre-set timetable for the day, hand the completed work back to the department, and leave when the bell rings at 3:15 PM.

Ultimate Career Springboard: Gain invaluable, direct behaviour-management experience that puts you at the front of the queue for future teacher training (PGCE, School Direct, or salaried apprenticeships).

Flexibility to Match Your Schedule: Choose between high-volume morning call-in supply (work 2-5 days when it suits you) or secure a consistent long-term / temp-to-perm placement at one local school.

Key Responsibilities

Whole-Class Facilitation: Deliver pre-planned lessons across diverse secondary subjects (e.g., English, Science, PE, History, Art).

Classroom & Behaviour Management: Apply the school's positive behaviour policy consistently, setting high expectations from the moment students enter.

Engagement & Support: Circulate the room, clarify tasks, keep pupils on-task, and support individual learning needs.

Order & Safeguarding: Maintain a calm, focused environment, take formal electronic registers, and follow school safeguarding protocols.

Handover: Collect completed classwork and leave concise feedback for the returning regular class teacher.

Who We Are Looking For

Education: A UK Bachelor's Degree (or equivalent) in any discipline-Sports Science, Drama, Theatre Studies, English, History, Psychology, or Criminology are particularly well-suited.

Coaching & Youth Experience: Background in youth work, camp leadership, sports coaching, swimming teaching, or amateur dramatics/mentoring is a significant advantage.

Confidence & Stamina: Strong vocal projection, approachable energy, emotional resilience, and the confidence to hold firm, fair boundaries.

Location & Availability: Accessible to Blackpool secondary schools (FY1-FY5) with good availability for early-morning bookings (from 7:00 AM onwards).

Safeguarding Compliance: Hold an Enhanced Child Workforce DBS on the DBS Update Service (or be willing to process one immediately).
