Prospero Teaching is recruiting confident and adaptable Secondary Cover Supervisors to work in secondary schools across the Southampton area. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals looking to gain valuable classroom experience while supporting schools with their day‑to‑day, short‑term, and long‑term cover needs.

As a Secondary Cover Supervisor, you will lead lessons in the absence of the regular teacher, ensuring students remain engaged with learning, complete assigned work, and maintain high standards of behaviour. This role is particularly well suited to graduates, aspiring teachers, coaches, tutors, youth workers, and those looking to build experience within secondary education.

The Role

Supervise lessons across KS3 and KS4 Deliver pre‑planned lesson materials and instructions Manage classroom behaviour in line with school policies Ensure students stay engaged and complete work set by teaching staff Support learning across a range of secondary subjects Maintain a positive and productive classroom environment Provide feedback to teaching staff following lessons Build positive relationships with students and colleagues Follow safeguarding and school policies at all times

Ideal Candidate:

Experience working with young people Confident managing groups of students independently Strong communication and interpersonal skills Professional, adaptable, and reliable approach Good classroom management skills Able to build positive relationships with students and staff Graduates and aspiring teachers encouraged to apply Previous experience in education, coaching, tutoring, mentoring, or youth work beneficial

Contract Details:

Position: Secondary Cover Supervisor Location: Southampton Start Date: ASAP Working Pattern: Full‑time or flexible opportunities available Pay Rate: Up to £130 per day Key Stages: KS3 & KS4

Experience, Training & Safeguarding:

Experience working with young people essential Previous classroom experience desirable but not essential Safeguarding training can be provided Enhanced DBS required (or willingness to obtain one)
