SEN Teaching Assistant - Secondary Autism School - Make a Real Difference

Location: Beckton, Newham Pay: £100-£120 per day Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday Start Date: ASAP Contract: Long-Term, with potential for permanent employment

Are you passionate about supporting young people with Autism? Perhaps you're a SEN or Psychology graduate looking to gain more experience, or an experienced support worker looking for a more rewarding career?

Remedy Education are working with a fantastic specialist secondary SEN school in Newham, supporting young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), communication difficulties and additional learning needs.

This is a school that genuinely puts independence and preparation for adult life at the heart of its teaching.

The school has recently benefited from a brand-new, purpose-built development, offering excellent facilities, modern equipment and specialist learning environments designed around the needs of its pupils.

What makes this school different?

This isn't just about helping pupils complete classroom activities. It's about giving young people the confidence and practical skills they need for life beyond school.

The school offers:

A dedicated life-skills classroom designed like a studio flat, where pupils can practise everyday tasks and develop independent living skills.

Specialist facilities and modern equipment to support a wide range of learning and sensory needs.

Practical learning programmes that help pupils work towards qualifications and prepare for future opportunities.

A strong focus on communication, social development, confidence and independence.

Opportunities to see genuine progress, whether that's a pupil learning a new skill, communicating more confidently or becoming more independent.

What will your role involve?

Supporting secondary-aged pupils with ASD and additional complex needs.

Providing 1:1 and small-group support.

Encouraging independence, communication and positive engagement.

Supporting practical lessons, life-skills activities and everyday routines.

Managing challenging behaviour through calm, consistent approaches.

Assisting with personal care where required.

Working closely with teachers and other support staff to provide a safe and positive learning environment.

We want to be upfront about the challenges.

This is a secondary SEN environment, and some pupils can display physically challenging behaviour. There may be occasions where staff are at risk of being hit, kicked or injured. Personal care is also an important part of supporting some learners.

We are looking for people who understand this, can remain calm under pressure and are committed to supporting young people with patience, dignity and consistency.

Who are we looking for?

We would love to hear from:

Psychology, Education, Childhood Studies and SEN graduates with relevant practical experience.

Experienced SEN Teaching Assistants, particularly those familiar with ASD.

Support workers, care workers and residential support staff experienced with autism or challenging behaviour.

Behaviour mentors and youth workers looking to move into specialist education.

Passionate, reliable individuals who genuinely want to build a career supporting young people with additional needs.

Previous experience supporting individuals with SEN or challenging behaviour is highly desirable, particularly within secondary-aged settings.

Why consider this opportunity?

Some days will be challenging, but the work has a real purpose. You'll be helping young people develop skills that many of us take for granted, giving them greater confidence, independence and opportunities for their future.

For anyone serious about developing a career in Special Educational Needs, this is a fantastic school to gain meaningful, hands-on experience.
