Sen Teaching Assistant - Part Time

We have an exciting opportunity for a Part Time Teaching Assistant to join us at Portfield School, working 2 or 3 days per week.

Working in specialist education is incredibly rewarding. As part of our team, you’ll help create a positive and supportive environment where every student is encouraged to take part, develop new skills and celebrate their achievements.

You don’t need a background in teaching or specialist education to apply. We’re interested in who you are, how you connect with young people and your willingness to learn.

To help you succeed, you’ll take part in our 12-week training programme, giving you the opportunity to build your understanding, develop practical skills and gain confidence in the role. You’ll also have the support of an experienced team around you as you settle into school life.

Please note: Autism Unlimited does not provide visa sponsorship.

To be considered for this role, you will be required to complete an application form as part of our safer recruitment process.

The role

Your role will be varied. You’ll work alongside teachers and other members of the school team, providing practical and emotional support and helping students engage with their education in ways that work for them. From encouraging a student to try something new to celebrating a milestone they’ve worked hard to reach, your contribution can have a lasting impact.

The role is unbelievably rewarding, some days can be challenging, both physically and emotionally, but you’ll be part of a supportive team every step of the way. Whether you need guidance from a colleague, your line manager, the wider Leadership Team, our Mental Health First Aiders or our Employee Assistance Programme, you’ll have people around you who genuinely care about your wellbeing.

At Portfield School, we know that progress doesn’t always come in big leaps. Sometimes, it’s a student proudly showing you something they’ve created, being brave enough to taste something unfamiliar, finally cracking a difficult maths problem or choosing to start a conversation. These moments may seem small to others, but to us, they are achievements worth celebrating.
