Senior Avionics Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Avionics Design Engineer to join their innovative team in Sunderland . This role is central to the development and integration of cutting-edge avionics systems for next-generation aircraft. You will be responsible for the entire lifecycle of avionics components, from conceptual design through to testing and certification, ensuring seamless integration with other aircraft systems. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test avionics hardware and software components for aircraft applications.
• Create detailed system specifications, schematics, and interface control documents.
• Perform trade studies and select appropriate COTS or custom avionics solutions.
• Collaborate with system integrators, mechanical engineers, and aerodynamicists to ensure optimal system performance.
• Conduct root cause analysis for avionics system failures and implement effective corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with aviation standards such as DO-160, DO-254, and ARP4754.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; Master's preferred.
• A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in avionics system design and development.
• Strong understanding of aircraft communication, navigation, and surveillance systems.
• Proficiency in VHDL/Verilog, embedded software development, and using tools like Xilinx Vivado or Altera Quartus.
• Experience with system integration, testing, and validation processes in an aerospace environment.
• Excellent analytical skills and ability to work effectively in a team-oriented setting in Sunderland .
