Senior Backend Engineer - API Development

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly proficient Senior Backend Engineer with a focus on API Development to join their dedicated technology team in Stoke-on-Trent . This role is central to building and maintaining the robust server-side logic and APIs that power our client's innovative products. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing scalable, secure, and efficient APIs that serve a growing user base and integrate with various internal and external systems. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain high-performance, scalable, and secure RESTful APIs.
• Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code in languages such as Python, Java, or Node.js.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, and other stakeholders to define API requirements and specifications.
• Optimize database performance and implement effective data storage solutions (SQL and NoSQL).
• Implement authentication, authorization, and security best practices for API endpoints.
• Participate in code reviews, testing, and the full software development lifecycle.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of professional experience in backend software development.
• Proven expertise in designing and building RESTful APIs.
• Strong proficiency in at least one backend programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Node.js, C#).
• Solid understanding of database technologies, including relational (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB).
• Experience with cloud platforms and containerization is a plus.
