About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join their dedicated engineering team in Edinburgh . This role is critical for developing and maintaining the scalable server-side applications and robust APIs that form the backbone of their digital platform. You will work in close collaboration with frontend developers, product managers, and QA testers to ensure the delivery of high-quality, performant software. This is an excellent opportunity for a seasoned engineer who thrives in a collaborative, office-based setting and is passionate about building resilient and efficient systems.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and deploy scalable backend services and microservices.
Write clean, efficient, and well-documented code in languages such as Java, Python, or Node.js.
Optimize database performance and manage data storage solutions (SQL and NoSQL).
Develop and maintain robust APIs that support frontend applications and third-party integrations.
Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to ensure system health and performance.
Participate in architectural discussions and contribute to technical decision-making processes.

Requirements

Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in backend software development .
Strong proficiency in at least one modern backend programming language.
Deep understanding of relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL databases.
Experience with cloud environments (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
Knowledge of system design principles, performance tuning, and security best practices.
Excellent problem-solving abilities and a commitment to working collaboratively within an on-site team .
