Senior Bioinformatician - Genomics

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Bioinformatician to join their expanding genomics research team in Sunderland . In this crucial role, you will develop and implement advanced computational methods to analyze large-scale genomic datasets, uncovering critical insights that drive scientific discovery and diagnostic development. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team of scientists and clinicians, contributing directly to projects aimed at understanding disease mechanisms and identifying novel therapeutic targets. Key Responsibilities

• Develop, validate, and maintain bioinformatics pipelines for processing and analyzing next-generation sequencing (NGS) data.
• Perform statistical analysis and interpretation of genomic data to identify significant findings, such as genetic variants, gene expression patterns, and mutations.
• Collaborate with experimental biologists and clinicians to design studies and translate complex biological questions into analytical approaches.
• Contribute to the development of new computational tools and algorithms for genomic data analysis.
• Clearly communicate complex analytical results and insights to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Ensure data integrity, reproducibility, and efficient management of large genomic datasets.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Statistics, or a related quantitative field.
• Proven experience (5+ years) in analyzing large-scale genomic datasets, particularly NGS data (e.g., WGS, WES, RNA-Seq).
• Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python or R, and familiarity with bioinformatics command-line tools and workflows.
• Strong understanding of statistical methods relevant to genomics and data analysis.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a team-oriented, collaborative setting.
