About the Role
Our client is seeking a highly capable Senior Buyer to join their procurement department in Portsmouth . This role is pivotal in managing the sourcing and purchasing of key materials and services, ensuring the company achieves competitive pricing, high quality, and reliable delivery. You will be responsible for building strong supplier relationships, negotiating complex contracts, and contributing to strategic sourcing initiatives. Key Responsibilities
- Lead sourcing activities and negotiations for strategic procurement categories.
- Manage and develop relationships with key suppliers, monitoring their performance against agreed metrics.
- Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives and process improvements within the purchasing function.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements in all procurement activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineering and operations, to understand material requirements and anticipate future needs.
- Prepare detailed market analysis and business cases to support sourcing decisions.
Requirements
- Significant experience (5+ years) as a Buyer or in a senior procurement role.
- Demonstrated success in negotiating complex contracts and achieving substantial cost savings.
- Strong understanding of supply chain management principles and risk mitigation strategies.
- Proficiency in using ERP systems and procurement software for data analysis and reporting.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Strong leadership potential and the ability to mentor junior team members.
