Senior Cheminformatics Scientist

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Cheminformatics Scientist to join their dynamic research and development team based in Coventry . This role is integral to drug discovery and development, focusing on the design, development, and application of computational tools and methods to support medicinal chemistry efforts. You will work closely with chemists and biologists to analyze chemical and biological data, identify potential drug candidates, and optimize their properties. This hybrid position offers a balance between collaborative in-office work and flexible remote working, allowing you to contribute effectively to a high-achieving scientific environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain cheminformatics databases and software tools for chemical structure searching, analysis, and visualization.
• Apply quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) and machine learning models to predict compound properties and guide lead optimization.
• Collaborate with medicinal chemists to design novel molecules with desired pharmacological profiles.
• Analyze and interpret large datasets from high-throughput screening and other experimental assays.
• Contribute to project strategy by providing computational insights and technical expertise.

Requirements

• PhD or MSc in Cheminformatics, Computational Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in cheminformatics within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
• Proficiency in cheminformatics toolkits (e.g., RDKit, OpenEye) and programming languages like Python.
• Strong understanding of chemical structures, molecular representations, and medicinal chemistry principles.
• Experience with database management and the ability to work effectively in a hybrid work model.
