Senior Childcare Development Officer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced and proactive Senior Childcare Development Officer to contribute to the strategic development and improvement of childcare services within Reading and the wider Berkshire area. This role involves working closely with local authorities, childcare providers, and other stakeholders to ensure access to high-quality, affordable childcare. You will play a key role in policy implementation, service evaluation, and supporting the childcare workforce. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of the childcare landscape and a commitment to enhancing outcomes for children and families, working in a hybrid model that combines office-based and remote responsibilities.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the development and implementation of local childcare strategies and policies.
• Monitor and evaluate the quality and accessibility of childcare provision across the area.
• Provide advice and support to childcare providers, including nurseries, childminders, and out-of-school clubs.
• Identify training needs and facilitate professional development opportunities for the childcare workforce.
• Contribute to reports and analysis on the state of childcare locally, identifying trends and challenges.
• Liaise with parents and community groups to gather feedback and understand childcare needs.

Requirements

• A relevant qualification in Early Years, Social Work, or Public Administration (Degree level preferred).
• Significant experience in the childcare sector, including policy development or service management.
• Thorough knowledge of the UK childcare framework (e.g., EYFS, Ofsted standards).
• Excellent analytical, report-writing, and presentation skills.
• Proven ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Experience working in a hybrid or flexible working environment.
