Location: Remote (UK-based), with occasional site or office visits Contract: Contract Rate: £45–£50 per hour, depending on experience and chartership Start: As soon as possible
About us
Techolony is a boutique design consultancy that utilises experienced contractor engineers to deliver our projects and work packages. Our engineers work remotely as part of a specialist team, delivering high-quality design on major client building projects across the UK.
About the role
We’re looking for a Senior Civil Engineer to join Techolony on a contract basis. You’ll be the civil designer working inside the site boundary on building projects: schools, hospitals and other public sector buildings, as well as commercial and industrial developments.
This is a hands-on design role for an all-rounder. You’ll design and coordinate everything outside the building footprint, and help guide and check the work of other engineers.
What you’ll be doing
- Designing below-ground drainage (private and adoptable), SuDS and attenuation
- Designing and coordinating utilities and incoming site services: connections, routing and diversions
- Designing hardstanding, car parks, service yards and site access roads, including pavement build-ups
- Producing site levels, earthworks and cut and fill designs
- Preparing drawings, calculations and reports, and taking schemes through to approval
- Checking and supporting the work of junior engineers and technicians
- Working closely with architects, structural engineers, building services and contractors
What we’re looking for
- Proven experience as a civil engineer on building projects, ideally public sector (education, healthcare or similar), commercial or industrial
- A genuine all-rounder: experience across drainage, utilities, external works and levels, not just one of these
- Hands-on design experience at senior level, including checking others’ work
- Strong Civil 3D skills, plus InfoDrainage, MicroDrainage or Causeway Flow
- Experience with S104, S106 and S278 approvals would be an advantage
- Chartered (CEng MICE) or working towards it is welcome but not essential
Please note: this role suits engineers from building, development or civil and structural consultancies. It is not suitable for highways or linear infrastructure specialists, or for drainage-only profiles
