About the Role
Our client is actively seeking a highly skilled Senior Computational Scientist with a specialization in Cheminformatics to join their pioneering, fully remote research team. This role is essential for driving innovation in drug discovery by developing and applying computational approaches to chemical data. You will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining cheminformatics tools and databases, analyzing large chemical datasets, and collaborating with medicinal chemists and biologists to identify and optimize potential drug candidates. The position requires a strong foundation in chemistry, computer science, and data analysis, enabling you to extract meaningful insights and guide experimental efforts in a remote-first environment, fostering a culture of data-driven discovery and scientific excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain cheminformatics databases and computational workflows for chemical data management and analysis.
- Apply structure-based and ligand-based computational methods for virtual screening, hit-to-lead optimization, and property prediction.
- Design and implement quantitative structure-activity relationship (QSAR) models and other predictive algorithms.
- Collaborate closely with medicinal chemists to design novel molecules with improved pharmacological profiles.
- Stay current with emerging technologies and methodologies in cheminformatics and computational chemistry.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Cheminformatics, Computational Chemistry, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in cheminformatics, with a focus on drug discovery.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, with experience in cheminformatics toolkits (e.g., RDKit, OpenBabel).
- Strong understanding of chemical structures, molecular representations, and relevant algorithms.
- Proven ability to work independently and collaborate effectively in a remote team setting.
