Senior Computational Scientist - Cheminformatics

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly skilled Senior Computational Scientist with a focus on Cheminformatics to join their pioneering research team based in Manchester . This role is crucial for advancing our client's drug discovery efforts by applying computational methods to chemical data. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining chemoinformatic tools and databases, performing structure-activity relationship (SAR) analyses, and supporting medicinal chemistry projects. This position requires a blend of computational expertise and a strong understanding of organic chemistry principles to drive innovative solutions within a dedicated, in-office research environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain cheminformatics databases and software tools to support drug discovery research.
• Perform molecular modeling, virtual screening, and QSAR studies to identify and optimize lead compounds.
• Analyze large chemical datasets to extract meaningful insights and guide medicinal chemistry efforts.
• Collaborate closely with medicinal chemists and biologists to design and prioritize new chemical entities.
• Implement and validate computational workflows for compound library design and filtering.
• Contribute to internal reports, presentations, and potentially external publications.

Requirements

• PhD in Cheminformatics , Computational Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of relevant industry experience in cheminformatics or computational chemistry.
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, and experience with cheminformatics toolkits (e.g., RDKit, OpenBabel).
• Strong understanding of chemical structures, properties, and their relationship to biological activity.
• Experience with molecular visualization and database management software.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a team setting.
