Senior Cosmetic Chemist - Skincare Formulation

About the Role

Our client, a leading innovator in cosmetic science, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Cosmetic Chemist specializing in Skincare Formulation to join their research and development team in Sheffield . This role involves the complete lifecycle of skincare product development, from concept and raw material selection to formulation, stability testing, and scale-up for manufacturing. You will be at the forefront of creating high-performance, safe, and desirable skincare products, driving innovation within a state-of-the-art laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop innovative and market-leading skincare formulations, including creams, lotions, serums, cleansers, and masks.
• Conduct comprehensive stability and compatibility testing to ensure product safety, efficacy, and shelf-life.
• Source and evaluate new raw materials and ingredients, assessing their performance and regulatory compliance.
• Troubleshoot formulation challenges and optimize existing products for improved performance or cost-effectiveness.
• Collaborate closely with marketing, regulatory affairs, and manufacturing teams to ensure successful product launches.
• Scale up laboratory formulations to pilot and commercial production batches.
• Maintain detailed laboratory notebooks and prepare technical reports on formulation development and testing.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD degree in Chemistry, Cosmetic Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
• A minimum of 7 years of hands-on experience in cosmetic formulation, with a strong focus on skincare.
• In-depth knowledge of cosmetic ingredients, their functions, safety profiles, and regulatory requirements (e.g., REACH, FDA, EU Cosmetics Regulation).
• Experience with analytical techniques and stability testing protocols for cosmetic products.
• Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and work effectively in a team-oriented R&D setting.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a meticulous approach to scientific research and documentation.
