Senior Data Engineer

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly analytical and proficient Senior Data Engineer to join their data science and analytics team in Leeds . In this role, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining scalable data pipelines and infrastructure that enable data-driven decision-making across the organization. You will work with large, complex datasets, applying your expertise in data warehousing, ETL processes, and big data technologies to ensure data quality, accessibility, and performance. This is a key position for someone passionate about leveraging data to unlock business insights.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, construct, install, test, and maintain highly scalable data management systems and pipelines.
• Develop and optimize ETL/ELT processes for efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading from various sources.
• Build and manage robust data warehouses and data lakes using cloud-based technologies (e.g., Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery).
• Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to understand their data needs and provide them with reliable, high-quality datasets.
• Implement data governance, quality, and security measures to ensure data integrity and compliance.
• Monitor data pipeline performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement solutions for continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Master's or Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a quantitative field.
• 5+ years of experience in data engineering, focusing on building and managing large-scale data systems.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
• Hands-on experience with cloud data platforms such as AWS (S3, Glue, Redshift), Azure (Data Factory, Synapse), or GCP.
• Proficiency in programming languages like Python or Scala for data manipulation and pipeline development.
• Experience with data modeling, data warehousing concepts, and ETL best practices.
