Senior Data Scientist - Finance

About the Role

Our client is looking for an accomplished Senior Data Scientist with a strong background in finance to join their innovative analytics team, based in Sunderland but open to remote candidates. You will leverage advanced statistical and machine learning techniques to extract actionable insights from large, complex financial datasets. Your work will directly influence product development, risk management strategies, and customer behaviour analysis, driving significant business value. Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy predictive models and machine learning algorithms for financial forecasting, fraud detection, and customer segmentation.
• Analyze large, complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and opportunities for business improvement.
• Collaborate with stakeholders across product, engineering, and business teams to define analytical requirements and deliver impactful solutions.
• Develop and maintain data pipelines and ETL processes for data extraction, transformation, and loading.
• Communicate complex findings and recommendations clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Stay abreast of the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and financial analytics.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of professional experience as a Data Scientist , with a significant focus on financial data .
• Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R, and experience with relevant libraries (e.g., Pandas, Scikit-learn, TensorFlow).
• Strong experience with SQL and database technologies; familiarity with big data platforms (e.g., Spark, Hadoop) is a plus.
• Solid understanding of statistical modeling, machine learning algorithms, and experimental design.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to translate business problems into data science solutions.
