Senior Data Scientist - Genomics

About the Role

Our client is looking for a highly skilled Senior Data Scientist with specialized experience in Genomics to join their innovative research team based in Belfast . This is a pivotal role where you will leverage vast amounts of genomic data to drive scientific discovery and product development. You will work at the forefront of personalized medicine and genetic research, collaborating with biologists, bioinformaticians, and software engineers to build scalable data solutions. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement advanced machine learning models and statistical methods for the analysis of large-scale genomic datasets.
• Design and build robust data pipelines for processing, cleaning, and integrating diverse genomic data sources.
• Collaborate with domain experts to identify key research questions and translate biological hypotheses into data-driven analytical approaches.
• Visualize and communicate complex analytical findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders through compelling reports and presentations.
• Contribute to the strategic direction of the data science team and mentor junior data scientists.

Requirements

• Master's or PhD in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Bioinformatics, or a related quantitative field.
• 5+ years of professional experience as a Data Scientist, with a significant focus on genomics or biological data analysis.
• Strong programming skills in Python or R, including libraries for data manipulation, machine learning, and visualization.
• Experience with genomic data formats (e.g., VCF, BAM, FASTQ) and relevant analytical tools.
• Proficiency in SQL and experience with big data technologies (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
