Senior Drilling Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Drilling Engineer to join their operations in Newcastle upon Tyne . This critical role involves planning, executing, and optimizing drilling operations to ensure safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. You will be responsible for designing well plans, selecting equipment, managing service providers, and overseeing drilling activities from start to finish. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of drilling technologies and a proven track record of success in challenging environments within the Oil & Gas industry, contributing to the company's reputation for operational excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed drilling programs and well designs, considering geological, environmental, and safety factors.
• Specify and procure drilling equipment, tools, and services, ensuring compliance with standards.
• Oversee day-to-day drilling operations, troubleshooting issues and making critical decisions in real-time.
• Manage drilling budgets and ensure all activities are conducted within financial constraints.
• Conduct post-well analysis to identify lessons learned and implement improvements for future operations.
• Ensure strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental regulations throughout all drilling phases.

Requirements

• Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in drilling engineering , with significant field exposure.
• Strong knowledge of drilling fluid technology, cementing, well control, and directional drilling.
• Experience with various rig types and offshore/onshore drilling operations.
• Proficiency in drilling software and planning tools.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage complex projects.
