About the Role
Our client is seeking a seasoned Senior Drilling Engineer to contribute to their innovative projects in the Newcastle upon Tyne region. You will be responsible for the planning, execution, and supervision of drilling operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. This role requires a strong technical background in drilling mechanics, well control, and completion design, working closely with operational teams on and offshore. You will play a crucial part in optimizing drilling performance, managing risks, and implementing new technologies to overcome complex geological challenges in a dynamic industry environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed drilling programs, including well design, trajectory planning, and equipment selection.
- Perform comprehensive risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for potential drilling hazards.
- Supervise drilling operations on-site or remotely, ensuring adherence to safety regulations and company standards.
- Manage drilling fluid programs, cementing, and casing design for various well types.
- Analyze drilling performance data and implement improvements for efficiency and cost reduction.
- Collaborate with geologists and reservoir engineers to optimize well placement and data acquisition.
Requirements
- Degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in drilling engineering roles within the oil and gas sector.
- Proven experience with well control procedures and equipment.
- Strong knowledge of directional drilling techniques and MWD/LWD tools.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
