Senior Electrical Design Engineer - Renewables

About the Role

Our client is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Electrical Design Engineer to join their growing team in Oxford , focusing on the rapidly expanding renewable energy sector. You will be responsible for the electrical design and specification of various renewable energy projects, including solar farms, battery storage systems, and wind power integrations. This role demands a strong understanding of electrical engineering principles, grid codes, and safety regulations pertinent to renewable energy installations. You will play a key role in delivering innovative and compliant electrical designs that support the transition to a sustainable energy future.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the electrical design of renewable energy projects, including single-line diagrams, equipment sizing, and cable calculations.
• Develop detailed technical specifications for electrical equipment such as transformers, switchgear, inverters, and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
• Perform electrical system studies, including load flow, short-circuit analysis, and protection coordination.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant industry standards, national grid codes, and safety regulations (e.g., BS 7671, G98/G99).
• Collaborate with project managers, civil engineers, and procurement teams to ensure seamless project execution.
• Provide technical support during the construction and commissioning phases, resolving design-related issues.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
• A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in electrical design engineering, with a significant focus on renewable energy projects.
• Proven experience with solar PV, BESS, and/or wind turbine electrical systems.
• Proficiency in electrical design software and simulation tools (e.g., AutoCAD Electrical, ETAP, PVSyst).
• Strong knowledge of grid connection requirements and regulations in the UK.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
