Senior Electrical Grid Engineer

About the Role

Our client, a national electricity transmission system operator, is seeking a highly experienced Senior Electrical Grid Engineer to join their strategic planning team in Nottingham . This critical role involves planning, designing, and optimising the high-voltage electricity grid to meet future energy demands and integrate increasing levels of renewable generation. The hybrid work structure provides the flexibility to work remotely on complex analyses while also enabling essential on-site collaboration and site visits. You will play a pivotal role in ensuring the security, reliability, and efficiency of the UK's power network, contributing directly to the nation's energy security and net-zero ambitions.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the development of long-term strategic plans for grid expansion and reinforcement to meet future capacity needs.
• Perform complex power flow, fault level, and stability studies for transmission network assets.
• Design and specify high-voltage substation equipment and transmission line infrastructure.
• Evaluate the impact of new generation sources and network developments on grid stability and performance.
• Collaborate with project teams, asset management, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance and project success.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineering staff.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Electrical Power Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in high-voltage electrical grid engineering, transmission systems, or power system planning.
• Expertise in power system analysis software (e.g., PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD).
• In-depth knowledge of grid codes, international standards, and regulatory requirements for transmission networks.
• Strong understanding of renewable energy integration challenges and grid modernisation technologies.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and leadership capabilities.
