The company Our client is one of the leading regional main contractors in the Midlands and South West, with over 30 years’ experience. They deliver projects from £250k to £30 million across a wide range of public and private sectors, including education, healthcare, leisure, residential, commercial, industrial, heritage and blue light services. They hold places on several major public sector frameworks. They’re known for a forward-thinking, people-first culture and a strong record of developing their teams.
The role
Reporting to the Pre-Construction Manager, you’ll be a senior figure in the estimating team. You’ll lead on key bids, shape tender strategy and act as the main point of reference for junior estimators. As well as producing accurate, competitive estimates yourself, you’ll help run the pre-construction function: planning resources, managing tender governance and driving continuous improvement.
What you’ll be doing
- Producing accurate cost estimates by developing, compiling and presenting scopes of work and cost data
- Supporting bid qualification and tender strategy, including PQQs and early appraisal of opportunities
- Planning pre-construction resources and allocating bid teams
- Leading tender launches and coordinating roles and responsibilities
- Reviewing tender documents, BOQs, supply chain returns and consultant inputs
- Giving technical, commercial, programme and risk support to the estimating team
- Managing tender governance: mid-tender reviews, document control, final sign-off and feedback
- Attending site visits, client interviews, presentations, and handover and close-out meetings
- Supporting supply chain reviews, maintaining cost libraries and contributing to Directors’ Reports
- Leading estimating meetings and training, and mentoring junior estimators through their development reviews
What we’re looking for
- 10+ years’ estimating experience, with significant time as a Senior Estimator for a main contractor
- Multi-sector experience, such as healthcare, education, leisure and commercial
- Experience bidding for strategic framework opportunities and renewals, and an understanding of how bidding differs between frameworks
- Experience of single-stage, two-stage and negotiated tenders
- A track record of mentoring junior estimators
- Able to lead and manage a bid process
- Honest, accountable and proactive, with strong relationship-building skills and a drive for results
What’s on offer
- £75,000 – £85,000 depending on experience
- Holiday entitlement that increases with service
- Private healthcare
- Core hours of 8:30am to 5pm
- A senior role in a respected, people-first regional contractor
