Senior Formulation Scientist

About the Role

Our client, a leader in pharmaceutical innovation, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Formulation Scientist to join their advanced drug delivery team in Cambridge . This role focuses on the design, development, and optimization of novel pharmaceutical formulations for a range of therapeutic areas. You will leverage your expertise in formulation science to create stable, effective, and patient-friendly dosage forms, working in state-of-the-art laboratories. This position is ideal for an experienced scientist who enjoys problem-solving and wants to contribute to bringing new medicines to patients, utilizing a hybrid work model to balance lab-based research with theoretical development and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop innovative pharmaceutical formulations (e.g., oral solids, injectables, topical).
• Conduct pre-formulation studies, including characterization of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and excipients.
• Optimize formulations for stability, bioavailability, and manufacturability.
• Develop and validate analytical methods for formulation testing and characterization.
• Lead formulation development projects from concept through to technology transfer.
• Collaborate closely with analytical development, process development, and regulatory affairs teams.

Requirements

• PhD or MSc in Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in pharmaceutical formulation development.
• Proven expertise in various dosage forms and drug delivery technologies.
• Strong understanding of physicochemical principles, material science, and analytical techniques.
• Experience with formulation development software and experimental design is advantageous.
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and project management skills.
