Senior Formulation Scientist

About the Role

Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Formulation Scientist to join their innovative product development team in Portsmouth . This pivotal role focuses on the design, development, and optimization of novel formulations for a range of advanced materials and consumer products. You will leverage your expertise in chemistry and materials science to create robust and effective formulations that meet stringent performance criteria and regulatory standards. Working in a well-equipped laboratory, you will lead projects from conception through to scale-up, collaborating with cross-functional teams. This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned scientist to drive product innovation and contribute to the success of a leading scientific organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and develop new formulations for (Specify product type, e.g., coatings, adhesives, personal care products) from bench-scale to pilot-scale.
• Optimize existing formulations to improve performance, stability, cost-effectiveness, and manufacturability.
• Conduct comprehensive physical and chemical testing of raw materials and formulated products to assess properties and performance.
• Investigate and resolve formulation-related issues encountered during product development and manufacturing.
• Collaborate with R&D, engineering, and marketing teams to define product requirements and project timelines.
• Prepare detailed technical reports, documentation, and presentations for internal stakeholders and regulatory submissions.

Requirements

• MSc or Ph.D. in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in formulation development within a relevant industry (e.g., FMCG, pharmaceuticals, materials science).
• Strong understanding of colloid and surface chemistry, rheology, and material characterization techniques.
• Proficiency with laboratory equipment used for formulation development and testing.
• Experience with statistical experimental design (DoE) and data analysis is highly desirable.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and project management skills, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic R&D environment in Portsmouth .
