About the Role
Our client, a critically acclaimed studio recognized for its deep and engaging gameplay experiences, is seeking a highly creative Senior Game Designer focusing on systems to join their collaborative team in Glasgow . This role is central to crafting the core mechanics, progression systems, and player interactions that define our titles. You will be responsible for conceptualizing, prototyping, and refining intricate game systems that provide meaningful depth and long-term player engagement. Working alongside a talented team, you will help shape the player's journey and ensure the game delivers a compelling and rewarding experience from beginning to end.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, document, and prototype core game mechanics and progression systems (e.g., combat, economy, character development).
- Balance complex gameplay systems to ensure fairness, depth, and replayability.
- Collaborate closely with engineers, artists, and other designers to implement and iterate on systems.
- Write clear and concise design documentation, GDDs, and flowcharts for system implementation.
- Playtest and analyze game systems, providing insightful feedback for improvements.
- Stay current with industry trends and player expectations regarding game systems design.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of professional experience as a Game Designer , with a strong portfolio showcasing systems design.
- Proven ability to design, balance, and implement complex game systems for PC and console titles.
- Excellent understanding of game design principles , player psychology, and engagement loops.
- Proficiency in using game development tools and engines (e.g., Unreal Engine, Unity) for prototyping.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to balancing.
- Exceptional communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to articulate design ideas clearly.
