Senior Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their established team based in Sunderland . This role is integral to ensuring the stability and safety of mining and construction projects. You will be responsible for conducting in-depth site investigations, analyzing soil and rock mechanics, and providing expert recommendations for foundation design, slope stability, and earthworks. This is a site-focused position, critical for project success and requiring a strong presence within the mining and infrastructure sectors .

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, execute, and manage geotechnical site investigations, including drilling, sampling, and in-situ testing.
• Perform detailed analysis of soil and rock mechanics data to assess bearing capacity, settlement, and slope stability.
• Develop comprehensive geotechnical design reports and provide recommendations for foundations, retaining structures, and earthworks.
• Oversee construction activities related to geotechnical aspects, ensuring compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
• Liaise with clients, project managers, and construction teams to communicate technical findings and solutions effectively.
• Contribute to risk assessments and develop mitigation strategies for geotechnical hazards.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering , with exposure to the mining industry .
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering principles.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio) for analysis and modeling.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and project management skills.
• Chartered Engineer (e.g., CEng MICE) status or eligibility is highly desirable.
