Senior Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their expanding infrastructure division based in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear . This role is crucial for providing expert geotechnical advice and design services for a variety of challenging civil engineering projects, including foundations, slopes, tunnels, and earthworks. You will be responsible for managing geotechnical investigations, interpreting ground conditions, and developing robust design solutions that ensure the safety and stability of structures. This position offers the opportunity to work on significant projects and contribute to the region's development, collaborating closely with clients and project teams in a dynamic, hybrid working environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan, manage, and execute geotechnical site investigations , including desk studies, site reconnaissance, and supervision of ground investigations.
• Interpret soil and rock mechanics data, conduct foundation design , slope stability analysis, and pavement design.
• Prepare high-quality geotechnical reports, design proposals, and technical specifications.
• Provide technical support and guidance to junior engineers and technicians within the team.
• Liaise with clients, regulatory bodies, and other disciplines to ensure successful project delivery.
• Ensure compliance with relevant British Standards, Eurocodes, and industry best practices.

Requirements

• A minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in geotechnical engineering .
• Proficiency in using geotechnical software such as PLAXIS , GeoStudio, or similar analysis tools.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and engineering geology principles.
• Experience in managing geotechnical projects from inception to completion.
• Excellent report writing and communication skills.
• Relevant degree in Civil Engineering or Geotechnical Engineering; a Master's degree is advantageous.
