Senior Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their established engineering consultancy in Southampton . This role is crucial for providing expert geotechnical advice and solutions for a variety of complex projects within the energy sector, including offshore wind and oil and gas infrastructure. You will lead site investigations, analyze ground conditions, and design foundations and earthworks to ensure structural integrity and project success. This position offers a dynamic work environment and the opportunity to contribute to significant engineering challenges along the South Coast .

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and manage ground investigations, including site reconnaissance, borehole logging, and in-situ testing.
• Analyze soil and rock mechanics data to assess site conditions and potential geotechnical risks.
• Design foundations (shallow and deep), retaining walls, slope stabilization measures, and other geotechnical structures.
• Prepare detailed geotechnical reports, specifications, and drawings for project implementation.
• Provide technical oversight and mentorship to junior geotechnical engineers and technicians.
• Liaise with clients, contractors, and regulatory bodies to ensure project requirements are met.
• Contribute to proposals and business development activities within the geotechnical engineering domain.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Civil Engineering with a specialization in Geotechnical Engineering.
• Minimum of 7 years of relevant professional experience in geotechnical engineering consultancy.
• Proven expertise in geotechnical software (e.g., PLAXIS, GeoStudio) for analysis and design.
• Strong understanding of soil mechanics, rock mechanics, and foundation engineering principles.
• Experience in managing site investigation programs and interpreting geotechnical data.
• Excellent report writing, communication, and project management skills.
