Senior Geotechnical Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join their leading consultancy in Southampton . This role is essential for providing expert ground engineering advice across a wide array of challenging projects, including large-scale infrastructure, commercial developments, and residential schemes. You will be responsible for managing geotechnical investigations, undertaking complex analyses, and designing foundations, earthworks, and retaining structures. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in ground investigation, soil mechanics, and foundation design, coupled with strong project management and client liaison skills, contributing to critical projects in the South of England.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage and deliver geotechnical investigations, including desk studies, site reconnaissance, and overseeing site works (e.g., boreholes, CPTs).
• Perform detailed geotechnical analyses, including slope stability, settlement, and foundation design calculations.
• Design and specify foundations (e.g., piled, raft, strip), retaining walls, and other earthworks.
• Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, risk assessments, and design recommendations.
• Provide technical guidance and support to project teams and clients on all geotechnical aspects.
• Ensure all work complies with relevant industry standards, codes of practice, and health and safety regulations.

Requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related discipline.
• Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering is highly advantageous.
• Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in geotechnical engineering.
• Proven experience in managing and delivering geotechnical projects from inception to completion.
• Proficiency in geotechnical software packages (e.g., Plaxis, Geo5, SLOPE/W).
• Excellent report writing skills and ability to communicate complex technical information clearly.
