Senior Grid Operations Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Grid Operations Engineer to join their critical operations team in Cambridge . This role is essential for maintaining the stability, security, and reliability of the electricity network. You will be responsible for overseeing real-time grid operations, managing network disturbances, and implementing strategies to optimize power flow and integrate distributed energy resources. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of power system dynamics and a proven ability to make sound decisions under pressure in a complex operational environment within the energy sector .

Key Responsibilities

• Monitor and control the electricity grid in real-time to ensure system security and reliability.
• Manage and coordinate responses to network events, disturbances, and emergencies.
• Develop and implement operational procedures and plans for grid stability and contingency management.
• Analyze grid performance data and identify potential issues or areas for improvement.
• Work closely with other operational teams, engineers, and external stakeholders to optimize grid operations.
• Participate in planning and testing of grid restoration procedures and emergency response protocols.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field with a focus on Power Systems.
• Minimum of 7 years of experience in power system operations, grid control, or related fields.
• Strong understanding of power system dynamics, stability, and protection principles.
• Experience with SCADA systems, EMS (Energy Management Systems), and grid monitoring tools.
• Knowledge of renewable energy integration challenges and smart grid technologies.
• Excellent decision-making, communication, and problem-solving skills, particularly during high-pressure situations.
