Senior IT Engineer (Level 2/3)

Senior IT Engineer (Level 2/3)

£38,000 – £42,000 per annum, depending on experience

Bicester, Oxfordshire

The Opportunity

A well-established and growing Microsoft Partner Managed Service Provider (MSP) is looking to appoint an experienced Senior IT Engineer (Level 2/3) to join its senior technical team.

Supporting more than 120 businesses across Oxfordshire and beyond, the company has built its reputation on providing a genuinely personal, engineer-led service. Clients speak directly to technical professionals rather than being passed through a call centre, and the business places a strong emphasis on technical expertise, ownership and excellent customer service.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced IT professional who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working directly with clients and taking ownership of infrastructure.

The Role

The Senior IT Engineer will act as a senior technical point of escalation, taking ownership of complex issues and working alongside other senior engineers to deliver reliable, secure and effective solutions.

The role offers considerable variety, with responsibility across networking, Microsoft 365 and Azure, as well as opportunities to provide technical consultancy and support the development of more junior members of the engineering team.

The successful candidate will be trusted to work independently, investigate problems thoroughly and use their technical judgement to deliver the right solution.

Key Responsibilities

• Take ownership of complex technical issues escalated from junior engineers

• Work collaboratively with other senior engineers to resolve challenging technical problems

• Design, maintain and document client network infrastructure

• Administer and troubleshoot Microsoft 365 and Azure environments across multiple client tenants

• Provide client-facing technical consultancy and advisory support

• Identify opportunities to improve infrastructure reliability, performance and security

• Mentor and support junior engineers, sharing knowledge and technical experience

• Maintain high standards of technical documentation and best practice

• Participate in the on-call rotation following successful completion of the probationary period

About the Successful Candidate

The ideal candidate will be an experienced IT Engineer with strong hands-on technical skills and a proven ability to troubleshoot independently.

The role would suit someone with:

• 3–5+ years' hands-on experience in a similar MSP, IT support or infrastructure environment

• Strong knowledge of networking fundamentals, including routing, switching, firewalls and VPNs

• Demonstrable experience administering Microsoft 365 and Azure

• Experience working across multiple client environments and Microsoft 365 tenants

• A proven track record of independent problem-solving

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

• Excellent communication skills and confidence dealing directly with clients

• The ability to mentor and support less experienced engineers

• A proactive, professional and customer-focused approach

Qualifications & Certifications

Formal qualifications and certifications are not essential.

The company places greater value on genuine, hands-on technical experience and the ability to demonstrate practical knowledge than on a list of certifications.

If a candidate has the technical ability, experience and problem-solving skills required to succeed in the role, they are encouraged to apply.

What's on Offer

• £38,000 – £42,000 per annum, depending on experience

• Opportunity to join an established and growing Microsoft Partner MSP

• Senior technical position with genuine responsibility and autonomy

• Exposure to a varied range of technologies and client environments

• Opportunity to work across networking, Microsoft 365 and Azure

• A collaborative senior engineering environment

• Opportunity to mentor and develop junior engineers

• Client-facing technical consultancy experience

• On-call participation following successful completion of probation

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be someone who enjoys being the person others turn to when a problem is difficult to solve.

They will be comfortable working independently, communicating with clients, taking ownership of issues and thinking beyond simply closing a ticket.

This is a role for an engineer who wants to solve problems, develop technically and make a genuine contribution to an established MSP.

Applications are welcomed from experienced IT Engineers who are ready to take the next step in their career within a senior Level 2/3 position
