Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly skilled Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their established engineering department in Edinburgh . This role involves taking ownership of the mechanical design process for new products, from initial concept generation through to detailed design and production handover. You will work on challenging projects that require creative solutions and a deep understanding of mechanical principles. The ideal candidate will be a proactive problem-solver, keen to contribute to product innovation and uphold the company's reputation for quality and excellence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of new products, utilizing 3D CAD software to create detailed models and drawings.
• Conduct FEA and tolerance analysis to ensure the structural integrity and functional performance of designs.
• Collaborate with the R&D team to explore innovative design concepts and material applications.
• Work closely with manufacturing engineers to ensure designs are optimized for efficient and cost-effective production.
• Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including BOMs and assembly instructions.
• Troubleshoot design-related issues during prototyping and production, implementing effective solutions.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related technical field.
• A minimum of 6 years of experience in mechanical design, preferably in consumer electronics or industrial machinery.
• Proficiency in SolidWorks or Inventor, with strong knowledge of PDM/PLM systems.
• Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles.
• Understanding of various manufacturing processes such as injection molding, CNC machining, and sheet metal fabrication.
• Strong analytical skills and the ability to present technical information clearly.
