Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their established engineering department in Portsmouth . This role is pivotal in leading the design and development of innovative mechanical solutions, from initial concept to final product release. You will leverage your extensive technical knowledge and problem-solving skills to drive projects forward, ensuring designs meet performance, cost, and quality targets. Key Responsibilities

• Lead the conceptualization and detailed design of mechanical systems and components using advanced 3D CAD tools.
• Conduct thorough stress analysis , thermal analysis, and other simulations to validate design performance.
• Collaborate closely with manufacturing engineers to optimize designs for cost-effective production and assembly.
• Develop comprehensive technical documentation, including drawings, specifications, and BOMs.
• Oversee prototype build and testing, providing technical guidance and resolving design issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and contribute to the continuous improvement of design processes and standards.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field.
• A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in mechanical design and development.
• Expertise in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Inventor) and FEA analysis tools (e.g., ANSYS).
• Deep understanding of materials science, manufacturing processes, and product lifecycle management.
• Proven ability to manage complex design projects and lead technical teams.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
