About the Role
Our client seeks a highly experienced Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join their leading engineering division in Portsmouth . This role is central to developing innovative mechanical solutions for challenging applications, requiring a deep understanding of design principles and manufacturing technologies. You will take a leading role in complex design projects, mentoring junior engineers and collaborating with a talented, multidisciplinary team. Key Responsibilities
- Lead the conceptualization, design, and detailed engineering of complex mechanical systems and products.
- Perform advanced stress analysis , thermal calculations, and dynamic simulations using FEA software.
- Develop comprehensive technical documentation, including 3D models, 2D drawings, and Bills of Materials.
- Oversee prototype development, testing, and validation processes to ensure design success.
- Collaborate closely with manufacturing, supply chain, and project management teams to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Mentor and guide junior mechanical engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence and continuous improvement.
Requirements
- MSc or MEng in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- A minimum of 8 years of relevant professional experience in mechanical design and engineering.
- Expert proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent advanced 3D CAD software.
- In-depth experience with advanced FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus) for complex simulations.
- Strong knowledge of materials selection, manufacturing processes, and DFM/DFA principles.
- Proven ability to manage design projects and lead technical teams effectively.
