Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

About the Role

Our client is seeking an accomplished Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to enhance their product development capabilities in Portsmouth . In this role, you will be responsible for leading the design and development of complex mechanical systems, from initial concept generation through to final product release. You will collaborate closely with a talented team of engineers, industrial designers, and project managers, contributing your expertise to innovative projects. This hybrid role offers a flexible working model, blending essential collaborative time in our Portsmouth office with the convenience and focus of remote work, supporting a balanced and productive workflow.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of intricate mechanical components and assemblies, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
• Generate detailed 3D CAD models , technical drawings, and robust Bill of Materials (BOMs).
• Perform advanced FEA analysis and other simulations to validate design integrity under various operating conditions.
• Work collaboratively with manufacturing and supply chain teams to ensure designs are optimized for DFM (Design for Manufacturability) and cost-efficiency.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineering staff.
• Document design processes, test results, and technical specifications comprehensively.

Requirements

• Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in mechanical design and product development.
• Expertise in 3D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks , Inventor) and simulation tools (e.g., ANSYS).
• Strong understanding of material selection, manufacturing processes, and product testing methodologies.
• Proven ability to manage complex design projects and deliver them on time and within budget.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and strong communication abilities, effective in a hybrid setting.
