Senior Mechanical Engineer – Data Centre Construction
Salary: £70,000–£90,000 DOE + Accommodation + Rotation + £160 Net per Week Living Allowance Location: Blyth, England Sector: Data Centres / Mission Critical Employment Type: Permanent, Full-Time
A leading international data centre construction contractor is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join a major project in Blyth.
This is a site-based opportunity to take ownership of mechanical engineering delivery on a large-scale data centre project, coordinating technical submissions, installation, commissioning and handover. You’ll work closely with the MEP Lead, package managers, contractors and clients to ensure mechanical systems are delivered safely, efficiently and to the required standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage client communications and attend project meetings.
- Lead and coordinate a team of mechanical package managers.
- Oversee technical submissions, RFIs and engineering documentation.
- Develop and review commissioning scripts for mechanical systems and equipment.
- Coordinate mechanical works with electrical, CSA and other contractors.
- Prepare and review method statements and risk assessments.
- Coordinate mechanical installation sequences, including pipework, against the construction programme.
- Monitor installation quality and resolve technical issues.
- Support delivery of the project programme through commissioning and handover.
- Track progress and coordinate activities with the wider project team.
- Assist with documenting and costing project scope changes.
- Support monthly valuations and final account preparation.
- Drive completion of O&M manuals and handover documentation.
- Coordinate with suppliers and vendors to obtain outstanding technical information.
- Ensure works comply with project specifications, quality standards and HSE requirements.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a Senior Mechanical Engineer or in a similar role.
- Data centre construction experience is essential.
- Experience delivering large-scale mechanical packages on complex projects.
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering or a related discipline.
- Strong understanding of mechanical installation, commissioning and handover.
- Experience managing package managers, subcontractors and suppliers.
- Knowledge of technical submissions, RFIs and construction documentation.
- Strong understanding of pipework installation and mechanical systems coordination.
- Commercial awareness, including scope changes and valuations.
- Excellent organisation, communication and time management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Project
