Senior Medicinal Chemist - Oncology

About the Role

Our client seeks a highly skilled Senior Medicinal Chemist to play a key role in their oncology drug discovery program based in Edinburgh . You will be responsible for designing and synthesizing novel small molecules with therapeutic potential, contributing to the advancement of new cancer treatments. This role involves close collaboration with biologists, pharmacologists, and other chemists to drive lead optimization efforts. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced chemist to contribute significantly to cutting-edge cancer research in a hybrid work environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and synthesize novel chemical entities targeting key oncogenic pathways.
• Optimize lead compounds for potency, selectivity, and pharmacokinetic properties.
• Collaborate closely with biologists to assess the efficacy and mechanism of action of synthesized compounds.
• Utilize structure-activity relationship (SAR) analysis to guide compound design.
• Contribute to patent applications and scientific publications.

Requirements

• Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a related field.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience in medicinal chemistry, with a strong track record in drug discovery.
• Proven expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, including modern synthetic methodologies.
• Experience with structure-based drug design and SAR analysis.
• Familiarity with oncology targets and related therapeutic areas is highly desirable.
