About the Role
Our client is seeking an accomplished Senior Medicinal Chemist to join their vibrant drug discovery team in Bristol . This key role will involve the design, synthesis, and optimization of novel small molecules aimed at treating unmet medical needs. You will be a central figure in the lead optimization process, working collaboratively with biologists, pharmacologists, and other scientists to identify and develop promising drug candidates. This hybrid position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in a supportive and innovative environment, blending essential laboratory work with strategic planning and analysis, all within the pharmaceutical sector .
Key Responsibilities
- Design and synthesize novel chemical entities (NCEs) with desired biological activity and drug-like properties using modern synthetic methodologies.
- Optimize lead compounds through iterative cycles of design, synthesis, and biological testing to improve potency, selectivity, and pharmacokinetic profiles.
- Utilize structure-activity relationship (SAR) analysis and computational chemistry tools to guide compound design and strategy.
- Collaborate effectively with biology, DMPK, and other scientific teams to advance projects towards pre-clinical development.
- Manage external synthesis projects and contribute to patent filings and scientific publications, representing our Bristol -based innovation efforts in medicinal chemistry.
Requirements
- PhD in Organic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, or a closely related field.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in medicinal chemistry and drug discovery within the pharmaceutical or biotech industry.
- Strong track record in the design and synthesis of small molecules, with demonstrable contributions to discovery projects.
- Proficiency in modern synthetic techniques, purification methods, and spectroscopic characterization (NMR, MS).
- Excellent understanding of drug discovery principles, ADME properties, and relevant therapeutic areas.
